I first met Hanks nine years ago in an English class I was teaching at Dartmouth College. I remember him well as he was a memorable student in many senses: a distinguished athlete; a consistent contributor to class discussions of complex materials; an engaging personality; and a high-minded perspective, academically and personally. I invited him to speak about the moral dimensions of gender relations in a graduate course I was teaching during the winter term. His speech, clear, concise, and original, was further empowered by the strength of his ethical convictions. I find Hanks to be a person of the highest, mature moral character: honest, responsible, trustworthy, compassionate, humble, and with an extraordinary generosity of spirit.

Hanks has an impressive intellect which is bolstered by his abilities to ask clarifying questions and take intellectual risks. His presence was much appreciated and his contribution to our discussions help make it the most successful Intro to African American Studies class which I have taught in the past 10 years. He also has a marvelous sense of humor. His infectious laugh served us well in a class where the subject matter can often be deadly serious, for many students, intimidating. His written work is careful and undertaken well in advance of deadlines; it's somewhat rare that one finds a student who works carefully through drafts rather than just putting something together the night before the due date.
J. Martin Favor, Associate Professor of English and Chair, African and African-American Studies, Dartmouth College

He's an imposing, personable, elegant gentleman with a sense of presence that is both relaxed and decisive. His use of language is clear, economical, and adventurously expressive. He listens, reflects, and takes direction with great intelligence. He knows how and when to focus, and upon what. In my old days at Second City we would have loved this fellow. I commend him to you.

From the first time I met him, I have felt that Hanks is one of those people you are very fortunate to have met along the way. I have personally enjoyed his insights, sense of humor and positive attitude. While there are times when I see his frustration with what he sees as injustice, particularly toward women, I also see him channel that frustration toward making things better. I have seen this in some of his speeches. He is an engaging and persuasive public speaker and puts a lot himself into each talk he gives. Hanks also has a great deal of life experience which has served to enhance his sense of self and build his character.

Others are saying?

Hanks, as you would be aware, was a very talented athlete and basketball coach in Brisbane on his regular visits here. On one of his trips he resided in my home for some months during which time he was training to become a professional player with the National Basketball Association of the USA. He coached many young players in and around Brisbane and at all times was an excellent role model. In particular his period with the Redlands Police Citizens Youth Club, a community club designed to assist the youth of the area to develop better attitudes to life through sport, was legendary. At all times his conduct was exemplary and his dedication and ability to communicate with both parents and youngsters was unquestioned. My wife Christine has very fond memories of Hanks trying to come to grips with an environment which included five very active children. All of them always look forward to hearing from Hanks even though some of them are now in their early twenties. His regular emails, phone calls, birthday greetings etc are a lot of fun.

Hanks is a genuine and humorous individual who can be relied upon to give a professional performance within any assignment or project he approaches or is assigned to. Throughout his long working relationship with Shades Of Ebony, he has proved to be not only the ultimate professional whilst representing himself and the company, but during this time has also become a firm friend and someone to be relied upon. We can only envisage huge things for Hanks in the future, and can't speak highly enough of him.
